Spiral Goddess Screw-up

I joined a new site called swap-bot and was excited to do my first swap... an ATC (or ACEO depending on who you ask).  The website assigns you a partner to send to and when I looked at her profile, the swirl goddess came to mind so I set out doing a few cards... after I did 4 (two I was happy with, 2 I wasn't so sure), I sprayed fixative to finalize them and quickly learned that the ink I used did not go with the fixative I used.  To my disappointment, the ink just bled all over the place.  :(

This is the result of being self-taught.  I end up spending more time agonizing over which mediums to use rather than what to draw.  This has kept me in the art closet for way too long.  In the past I would have been so embarrassed that I would not have shared this with you but I'm changing my ways.  Okay self, so you screwed up, so what.  Pick yourself up and try again. :)

card 1
I learned the colored pencils (first I used white then silver) did not work with this thick board (my lines look all fuzzy since I had to work to engrave them):

card 2
the ink lines were sharp and though the card might seem plain like the first, the design was growing on me.

then spray made it look like this (ew)

Card 3
Oh what a pretty girl!
I could not wait to get my hands on her and fill her with color!

Then spray made her look like this (more ew! and a sad face!)

Card 4
This was actually the first card I did but saved it for last because it was the one I decided to trade.

Even though its not as perfect as I wanted it to be, I still liked it.  I matted it, included some of my art cards and mailed it off today (let it go into the universe).

Bye bye spiral goddess.  Hopefully the next time we meet I will treat you as a better muse!

Witches in Fiction Blogoversary Party

Are you here to party with me?

I'm inviting you to kick up your heels and celebrate your inner witchy-poo!

How, you may ask?

Magaly Guerrero is throwing a Witches in Fiction 2nd Blogoversary Party and you can find out more about it by clicking here!

Don't worry about being late because the party starts today (April 13) and will last until May 1st!

In the spirit of all things mystical and magical, I have some offerings for you.
Both were created by me for this blog party and I invite you to join in!

She sets out in flight
to take on her plight
Amongst the moonlit sky
her secrets lie...

This witch is on a 4x6 board and can either be framed or propped up in its plastic sleeve. :)

"Bewitched" as she is known to her friends:
She is so pleased to have her hands on her "precious" once again...
With it, she can do anything, be anyone, go anywhere!

What is in that crystal ball, exactly?  Well, my friends, that is up to you.
It is whatever you truly desire... what you envision!

** If you would like to have one of these witches as your very own, please leave a comment. :)
** On May 2nd, I will do a random drawing for the giveaway.  :)
** Don't forget to visit Magaly and the other Wicked Darlings (click here)

how to steal like an artist :)

One of the most inspiring things I've read in a long time! :)

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."  Jim Jarmusch
